Where recordings live, and who can hear them
We record people's voices, often at work. You should know exactly what happens to those recordings before anyone presses record, so here it is, in plain language.
What stays inside janqua
- Transcription runs on our own servers. Learners' speech is not sent to a third-party speech-to-text service.
- Recordings are never used to train models. Our scoring is built and calibrated from licensed and open native-speaker datasets, not from learner audio.
- No advertising or third-party analytics trackers inside the janqua app.
One feature uses an outside service: hear it in your own voice plays a sentence back in the learner's own voice, using a third-party voice service. The temporary voice is deleted straight after use.
How recordings are protected
- Encrypted in transit (TLS) and encrypted at rest (AES-256)
- Stored in private cloud storage, never publicly accessible
- Playback uses links that expire after 15 minutes
Where data is stored
Amazon Web Services, in the United States (us-east-1). If your organisation has data-residency requirements, tell us before a pilot starts.
Who can hear a recording
| Who | What they can see or hear |
|---|---|
| The learner | Their own recordings, scores and feedback. |
| Their teacher or manager | Recordings, scores and progress for learners in their own classes or teams only. |
| Organisation admins | An overview of participation and progress, not individual recordings. |
| janqua staff | Access for support and quality assurance only. |
Retention and deletion
For each pilot, we agree with the organisation how long recordings and reports are kept and when they are deleted, before any recordings are made.
Consent at work
How participation works for employees (including what happens if someone would rather not take part) is agreed with the organisation as part of setting up the pilot.
Learners under 18
Our pilots are for adults (18+). We are not currently running pilots with learners under 18; we'll publish how we handle younger learners' data before we do.
For procurement and security reviews
We're happy to complete your security questionnaire and walk your team through the architecture.
