Measurable outcomes
Every learner gets a baseline on a six-level scale (A1 to C2), modelled on the CEFR levels language teachers already know. janqua then scores vowels, consonants, word stress and, for Mandarin and Cantonese, tone, so progress shows up as numbers the learner, teacher and programme can all see.
Teachers see each student's progress and the sounds a class finds hardest, so class time can go on shared difficulties and individual practice on the rest.
Clear goals drive quick wins
Practice comes in short sessions: a graded passage, a few targeted drills, and a weekly goal of the handful of sounds that matter most for that learner. Clear next steps keep learners coming back, without a teacher having to set every task.
Questions institutions ask us
Does it try to make learners sound like native speakers?
No, and that's the design principle. Learners choose their target dialect, and the feedback concentrates on intelligibility: the differences most likely to cause a listener to mishear, not differences that don't get in the way.
Is it inclusive of different first languages?
janqua scores against the target language, so it works for learners from a wide range of first languages. For the most common ones it adds guidance that anticipates the typical difficulties speakers of that language have.
What about academic integrity?
janqua is a practice tool, not a high-stakes exam. Learners read passages aloud in their own voice and receive feedback; nothing is written or generated on their behalf.
Where do recordings go?
Speech is transcribed on our own servers, never sent to a transcription vendor, and learner recordings are never used to train models. Full detail on Security & data.
